100. Arizona. Two Pictorial History Cards for Arizona. Advertisements for the series of fifty cards giving a pictorial history of the United States and Territories put out by the Arbuckle Bros Coffee. One of the Arizona cards has a map of Arizona with the area listed as 113,020 sq. miles and the population, 40,440. To the right of this is a scene of an Indian camp. The other card has a short history of Arizona on the back. The front has two scenes: General Miles Attacking the Forces of Geronimo in the Mountain Passes in 1890 and Spanish Explorers Discovering Cave Dwellings, 1540. 3 x 5. Very colorful. Very fine. C1890. The only reference we could locate on a Silver Thread MC was in Cochise County AZ, located near the Empire mine (Burchard, 1884, p. 43) Excellent. Est. $200-300. 103. Mohave. Maynard. Dean MC. Vignette of mine and mill, with men sitting on train bed in front of mill. Smaller vignette of man in between two pack mules in lower right corner. Brown border and underprint. Owned 29 claims and 1 mill site in the Hualapai Mountains, Maynard district. They mined a 15' silver bearing vein via a 400' shaft with tunnels and workings. Incorporated in New York 1880. Issued to I. L. Gensler for 100 shares, cert #894, in 1887. Signed by Nelson Morris president and P. S. Swain secretary. Vignette of miners loading ore into barrel to be lifter to surface. Black border. Uncancelled. 7 X 9. Printer - W. E. Badeau, NY. Includes the receipt for the purchase of the shares. Located two miles south of the famous Silver King mine. The Silver Queen, like the Silver King mine, was also a high-grade silver mine. The outcrop of the Silver Queen was located after the discovery of the Silver King. The Silver Queen mine was shut down around 1893 because of the low price of silver. Mr. Swain (president) sold the company and mine to the Magma Copper Co. (Neale, 1926, p.371; Ransome, 1903, p.116; Burchard, 1882, p.280; Rickard, 1932, p.272-3; Dunning, 1959) Extremely fine. flanked by two smaller vignettes of men working in mines. Black border with
gilt underprint and seal. 5.5 x 10. Owned the Lee Group of 9 claims in Santa
Cruz County, located 10 miles north of Patagonia. Minerals are chalcopyrite
and copper glance, producing copper and silver. The mine has a 400' shaft.
The term ruby copper probably refers to cuprite. (Mines Hndbk, 1914, p.772)
Very fine. Est. $25-50. 107. Yavapai. Big Bug. Iron King Extension MC. Incorporated in Arizona in 1903. Issued to Frederick J. Bopp for 500 shares in 1904. Uncancelled. Signed by president Geo. F. Jacoby and secretary J.G. Cresser. Birds eye view of road leading to mining camp, flanked by two smaller vignettes of men working in mines. Gilt border and underprint. 8.25 x 11. Located in the well known mining and smelting town of Humboldt, Yavapai county. This stock is one promoted by Douglas, Lacey & Co, a notorious bunch of swindlers that had defrauded upwards of 20,000 individuals of several millions of dollars. They had about 40 branch offices in the US and Canada. Efforts were begun in 1903 to have the company investigated by the Post Office, but the Postmaster refused to take action. Printer - Goes; Baumgardt, L. A. The company had 5 claims 12 miles south of the famous copper mining center of Jerome. Development included a number of shafts and tunnels totaling 4,240 ft of workings on 3 fissure veins carrying oxide and sulphide ore. Vignette, top center, of mill buildings and steam train with ore cars in rugged canyon; upper left corner of 3 miners inspecting an ore sample; upper right corner of 2 miners filling ore bucket, 3 miners in background . The report claims ownership of the Fortuna, Oregon, Half Moon, Arizona, Christmas Gift, Alta and New Years Gift properties. The report seems to indicate that there is no active production or workings. There is a professionally written geologic description and history of the workings and mine. Written F. J. Martin. 7pps. Uncancelled. Signed by president Rol King and secretary R.N. (?). Orange border and underprint. 8 x 12. Owned 66 claims covering 1200 acres including the Alamo Group and the Mohican Group. The company was initially incorporated as the Alamo GMC in 1911. In 1917, the company reorganized under the name above after acquiring all holdings of the defunct Mohican Copper Co.
