The property was developed by 5 shafts of 20-110 ft. deep with about 1,000 ft. of underground development. 988. Arizona. Yavapai. Jerome. Michigan Verde Copper Co. Cert. #369. Incorporated in Arizona, 1916. Issued to Dr. Earnet J. Favell in 1917 for 100 shares. Signed by L.B. Eaton, president and E. D. Bowles, secretary. Vignette of spread-winged Bald Eagle over masthead, and two vignettes of underground mining scenes at either end of masthead. Orange border. Uncancelled. Printer: Mysell, Rollins, Co. 9 x 11. Owned 29 claims, 535 acres, which contains “outcrops” in a connecting belt of schist and diorite. The property is neither better nor worse than that of the many other Jerome companies who are exploring their tracts. No development is claimed, but the stock-sellers advertise that the property is owned outright and the money derived from stock sales will be used for development. The Michigan Verde was one of the worst of the many very questionable promotions of the boom days of Jerome in 1916. The manner of its promotion and the character of its sponsors were open scandal in the camp, and when the company lost its option and the Arizona Corp. Commission ordered the return of its promotion stock and forbade the sale of shares it was thought that the last had been heard of it. It is apparent that a new and different directorate has been successful in getting by the Commission prohibition, since the Western Copper Syndicate, which has a post-office box at Phoenix, Ariz., is advertising stock and sending out the same old hackneyed stories about the United Verde mine and among other misleading statements says this property end-lines the United Verde Extension property, whose mine workings are 1 1/2 miles away, though an outlying undeveloped group of claims belonging to that company does lie between Michigan Verde and the U.V. mine. From the known dip and extent of the orebodies of the United Verde and its great neighbor, United Verde Extension, it is certain that the Michigan Verde is entirely outside of any possible extension of those ore deposits. The geologic report published by the company is a rank example of supposedly technical writing. [Ref: Mines Handbook, 1918, pp.408-9]. Torn along folds, one end entirely separated from rest of certificate, piece missing at center on fold, on one corner, and along top margin, paper weakened. Est. $25-50

Borton secretary and H. S. Lewis president. Vignette of spread winged eagle. Green border and underprint. Cancelled by rubber stamp. Printer - Franklin Bank Note. 7 x 11”. We have previously attributed this company to Cripple Creek. But this was probably in error. We know think this company was operating the War Eagle mine, aka the William & Mary claim, in the Turkey district, Yavapai County. Prior to issuance, several of the claims surrounding the War Eagle had been in litigation. (internet source). Very fine. Est. $30-60
